As My Husband Lay Sleeping

“Hi, it’s so good to see you! Pete is already here. Apparently, the boys stopped for a few drinks after work. And by a few, I mean more than two.”

Margaret shook her head as she said it, and I wondered exactly what I had missed. Pete liked to drink, but he did not have a high tolerance. She took my coat and walked me into the living room where Marcus and my husband were sitting across from each other with martinis in hand.

“Hi, baby!” Pete said, slurring his words already. “We’ve been having martinis. They’re delicious.”

“I better catch up then,” I said, taking a cold glass off the bar. Just as I turned to sit with my husband, Marcus stood and walked to me. He did not seem unstable at all.

“It’s so good to see you, Sarah. I’m glad you could make it on such short notice.”

And then the bastard kissed me on the cheek while one hand slid down my back and grabbed my ass tightly.

“Tonight will be fun,” he whispered in my ear at the same time.

Pete hardly noticed I was there let alone that his boss’s hands were all over me, but I still squirmed as I stepped aside and sat down on the couch. I knocked back half of my drink in one gulp because I needed to catch up if I was going to survive the evening.

“Why don’t we eat before you boys get any more liquor in you,” Margaret said, inviting us all to the dining room. I had almost forgotten how beautiful their house was as I lead Pete down the hall, through the library, and into the large dining room. There was a fire flickering in one corner, but the table was set for four, and in spite of the size, the room felt intimate.

“Let me,” Marcus said pulling a chair out for me. As I sat down, he pushed the chair in before rubbing my shoulders as Pete fumbled with the chair across from me. And in the six seconds that Margaret turned to light a candle and my husband bent down to pick up the napkin he dropped, Marcus slid his hands down the front of my dress and cupped my breasts roughly.

It was so fast that I almost didn’t believe it had happened. Pete stood up and took his chair, Margaret took the seat next to him, and Marcus sat down beside me, and I had to shake my head to make sure I was actually there.

Marcus gave a quick toast, we all finished our martinis, and Margaret opened a bottle of wine. The food itself was delicious although nothing overly complicated. I suspected that Margaret had about as much warning as I had about the evening's entertainment. But while the four of us held a pleasant conversation, it was clear that Pete was struggling, and Margaret wasn’t far behind him. In fact, she went through most of the first bottle of wine herself as we ate, and I began to realize just how well Marcus had planned everything.
